Academic calendar
Overview of the Academic calendar year
An academic year runs from week 36 to week 35 the following year. The academic year is divided into two semesters, and for some educations, each semester is divided into two blocks. The Academic year, i.e. the period in which ordinary teaching and examination are planned, is usually from week 36 to week 25.
University of Copenhagen has prepared joint guidelines for the year and timetable structure. At Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences these Guidelines are followed if possible in connection with the preparation of teaching plans for all the Faculty's study programs. However, you should be aware that it is only guidelines, and thus only used as guidance.
The following days are public holidays, and thus there is no teaching:
- Easter: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday
- Ascension Day (Thursday)
- Whit Monday
- Constitution Day (June 5)
- Christmas and New Year: (December 23 - January 1)
Additional public holidays in ordinary teaching periods have no teaching. On the other hand, other red-letter days and the like are ordinary teaching days, unless otherwise announced on each course.
Please note that as a general rule, teaching can be planned in week 42, in the winter holiday weeks 7 and 8, and in the days leading up to Easter. Thus, you should not plan holiday in the weeks unless you can see in your Syllabus that the period is without teaching for you.
In the UCPH guideline you can find indicative dates for the current academic year in the last part of the document in Year and Timetable Structure 2020-2025.
Course plans for the coming 1-2 semesters are available at KUnet (only for staff and students at University of Copenhagen). At your Study programme page, you will find teaching plans for the degree program at subsequent semesters. You can also find information about study start and end, exam periods, holidays and days off on the programme.
When there is something about course-free weeks in the teaching plan, you as a student have to compare this information with your syllabus/timetable page. Unfortunately some semesters are so tightly packed that also course-free weeks will be put to use for certain classes.
